UNODC
UNODC was established in 1997 as a result of the merging of the United Nations Centre for International Crime Prevention and the United Nations International Drug Control Programme. It was established by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to enable the Organization to focus and enhance its capacity to address the interrelated issues of drug control, crime and international terrorism in all its forms.
Sex trafficking refers to human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation. Perpetrators, known as sex traffickers or pimps, manipulate victims into engaging in commercial sex for financial gain, employing methods such as force, fraud, and coercion. Every aspect of sex trafficking, from recruitment to exploitation, is considered a criminal act, including child sex tourism (CST) and domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST). This crime is often regarded as a form of modern slavery, as victims are coerced into non-consensual sexual acts, effectively subjected to sexual servitude.
